Garrett Jacob’s Spring-Holding Tool

Instead of using J hooks to prevent the spring from bowing, in the manner of my homemade unit and the Mac tool on which it is based, Garrett’s design uses curved arms like the Kent-Moore (AMC) tool. However, as in my design, the hooks that fit into the spring seat ears are spaced farther apart than those on the AMC tool. This maintains less compression tension on the spring—much safer, in my opinion!

Garrett says he will make the tools with the hooks 9” apart for the American, etc., and 61/2” inches apart for the big cars (which have shorter coils). The cost is $35 per set. You can contact Garrett at billsamc@aol.com.
